Our hand's-down favorite (among our family AND our customers): Alma Hackney, my buddy Dwight’s church choir director, made a mean rum cake for her friends—she’d send Dwight’s dad into the store for the booze while she waited in the car. Alma’s gone now but left her recipe with us, and we promised not to change a thing. The New York Times and Garden & Gun Magazine love our rum cake! A little bit of rum inside a buttery yellow cake, with a rum glaze brushed all over—enough to soak through and still put a crackly finish on top. We've also just introduced a tropical version: full of pineapple and coconut flavor (it's like having a piña colada at the beach without the sand in your shorts). This is our best-selling coffee cake. It's an eight-inch round rich sour cream cake with pecans and cinnamon streusel in the center and on top. Red Truck gourmet peanuts and cashews
We looked all over Virginia for the best peanuts and cashews and we love the result; our gourmet peanuts and cashews come from Belmont Peanuts near the North Carolina border. A daughter of farmers, Patsy Marks married another farmer and their family has been growing, roasting and packing peanuts on their Capron, Virginia, land since 1993. The Red Truck Bakery is proud to be supporting this family farm and knows that you'll enjoy the fruit of their labor as much as we do. These are the large gourmet size Virginia is known for; choose from salted peanuts, honey roasted peanuts, butter toasted peanuts, barbecue-seasoned peanuts, and salted cashews. Our seasonal pies
Not available for shipping during warm months; we'll resume taking orders in the fall: Our pies have a loyal following across the country. The sweet-potato pecan pie is two Southern treats in one, and the authentic mincemeat pie is full of apples, raisins, golden raisins and a little suet (imported from Britain to keep it authentic) and finished with a splash of brandy. ~ $26.

Havana fruitcake
We'll be offering our Havana Fruitcake again in mid-November 2010. Our tropical rum fruitcake, which I learned to make in Cuba, is a customer favorite and full of pineapple, macadamia nuts, pecans, raisins, coconut and spices, and soaked with dark rum. Even those who say they don't like fruitcake swoon over this one. ~ $22

Almond stollen
We'll be offering our Almond Stollen again in mid-November 2010. This is the classic European stollen, over 1 pound, and full of almonds and our own candied orange and lemon, wrapped around an almond marzipan center.
